![]() ![]() Someone needs to come along and start a really flipping good XMPP provider with a really good, cross platform app for it like we see with these centralized IM services and hell. Ugh, I really do wish decentralized instant messaging was the norm, but its hard to get normies on board, and there isn't much out there that's actually good. Something I have learned that bugs me a lot is that I never realized until now that Signal is technically open source (when they actually release the code :eyeroll:), but it isn't open source in the sense that the community contributes to it like I thought it did? I'm probably forgetting something else.Delaying (for a year!) making source code public.Using some dumbass crypto coin that nobody has heard of instead of something already established.Little or no community input on direction. No or very little communication from the Signal team.I will admit I don't like the direction things are going if this is what we have to deal with from now on. I have lost a bit of trust in Signal (the developers) because of their lack of communication, but I still trust Signal (the application) because it is still a very excellent messaging application. I don't know for sure, but maybe donations simply were not enough? Who knows. I also don't see anything wrong with them trying to find new ways to monetize the application. Keep in mind though that the money you donated also went to some great features, and not entirely to this. Nobody wanted it, but that’s where a part of their donation went to anyway instead of features people actually want. I haven't had the opportunity to donate to Signal, but I can see why people who have would be upset about the feature. I still trust that my messages are being sent privately and securely, and that they will continue to be. It's private, secure, easy to use, and the MobileCoin crypro garbage doesn't change that. ![]() Signal is still a really good instant messaging application. It doesn't take away from the messaging experience, and its available for the three people who for some reason actually want to use it. The MobileCoin feature is pretty dumb, but frankly I don't really care. I am horrified by Signals decision and I am strating to loose all trust in the team. Zcash, Monero and soon even Litecoin and Bitcoin with the mimblewimble extension will have a better use case than this Shitcoin. There is literally NO adoption and for good reason. Not a single serious merchant accepts mobile coin. Mobilecoin advertises that it controls payment channels and is able to censor users and transactions. Nobody and I repeat nobody can tell me that there is a rational, non profit driven decision behind the implementation of a mobilecoin wallet. Now I read that they want to use this MobileCoin that nobody ever heard off before although there are so, so many other privacy coins that they could have gone for, keeping the users interest in the first place. I converted half of my friends to it, promising them that after Whatsapp, Telegram and Threema(had difficulties convincing people to use it because you have to pay), Signal would be the last Messenger I would ask them to install for me since they had no reason and no way to actually Profit from their users. ![]() I truly believed Signal would be the Messenger to give the World the Privacy Messaging App it always needed.
